Ørsted and Eversource announce partnership with local fishermen

The Day; May 19, 2021

Joint-venture partners Ørsted and Eversource, the companies working with the state on a $235 million overhaul of State Pier in New London, have announced a collaboration with Waterford-based marine services provider Sea Services North America and its partner fishermen in Rhode Island, Connecticut and New York.

Ørsted says the agreement marks the first time an offshore wind developer and a commercial fishing consortium have signed a substantial commercial contract in the history of U.S. offshore wind.

The partnership, Ørsted and Eversource said in a statement, supports scouting and safety work — safe navigation in and around the companies’ planned Northeast offshore wind farms projects, including the 704-megawatt Revolution Wind project serving Rhode Island and Connecticut, the 132-megawatt South Fork Wind serving Long Island and the 924-megawatt Sunrise Wind project serving New York.

“We believe strongly that offshore wind can coexist with all ocean users, including the region’s commercial and recreational fishing fleets,” David Hardy, chief executive officer of Ørsted Offshore North America, said in a statement. “Our expanded collaboration with Sea Services will help us as we strive to achieve that coexistence, with the valuable support from fishermen who know the area’s waters best.”

Sea Services North America was co-founded by Waterford attorney Gordon Videll and Gary Yerman, the founder and owner of New London Seafood Distributors in New London.

Groton company gets spotlight for connection to offshore wind

The Day; April 24, 2021

New London — It’s called the ThayerCat, a catamaran-style power boat being converted into an autonomous unmanned marine vessel that can do things like monitor marine mammals and help mitigate noise during construction of offshore wind turbine platforms.

That was one of several innovative projects on display during a tour of Groton-based ThayerMahan on Friday, a 5-year-old company that U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney, D-2nd District, called “one of the most exciting new companies in the state of Connecticut.”

ThayerMahan is also a company that stands to benefit from the reinvigoration of the offshore wind industry under President Joe Biden. Biden’s administration has said it plans to accelerate permitting and boost financing for offshore wind farms.

ThayerMahan is performing high-tech seabed surveillance work with cutting-edge technology and recently was selected to receive a share of the $8 million made available by the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Offshore Wind Research and Development Consortium for its work with undersea cables, a project that could help reduce impacts on the ocean environment of work proposed by the offshore wind industry.

Courtney was joined on Friday’s visit by ThayerMahan CEO Mike Connor, Ørsted Offshore North America CEO David Hardy and others to talk about opportunities in clean energy manufacturing, particularly connected to the offshore wind industry.

ThayerMahan is contracted to perform work for Ørsted, the company that has joined with Eversource in development of several offshore wind farms and contributing more than $77.5 million toward the modernization of State Pier in New London.

Connor said the Groton company, which performs some work for the government, sea bed surveys and underwater infrastructure inspections, works with the submarine and shipbuilding community and expects ongoing maintenance work associated with marine projects to ensure environmental compliance as well as marine mammal safety.  MORE>>>

Cirtronics; April 1, 2021

Milford, NH

Cirtronics is sponsoring the Product Development track at this year’s MD+M | BIOMEDigital event on April 6-7, 2021. Engaging early with partners is vital in the product development process. At Cirtronics, early engagement includes progressing medical devices through our Transition to Manufacturing (T2M) facility and services. T2M accelerates the product’s seamless move to manufacturing and shortens time to market.

Jim McCall, Director of Manufacturing, “T2M optimizes product build processes before moving into production, creating an efficient transfer to manufacturing and consistent results.” McCall continues, “By leveraging early access to engineers and process equipment in our T2M facility, we’re able to optimize the build for production. Working with our supply chain experts, we review the bill of material and create a sourcing strategy that aligns with the specific needs of our customer. Our T2M services accelerate the transition of complex systems to full-scale production here in our FDA registered facility.
